Hamlin Got a Clock!
Posted on March 31st, 2008 by Ron Ripple under Nascar, Nascar Racing“You got a clock, baby, you got a clock!” shouted Denny Hamlin’s crew chief as he crossed the finish line. Are you kidding me? Screw the clock, Hamlin got a win in the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 and broke both this season’s dry spell and bad luck. For those of you who don’t know, every winner of the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 receives a grandfather clock. Hamlin was able to secure the win and the clock, when crew decided on the last caution to take only fuel and no tires. This was the break he needed after coming out of the pits in front of Gordon. He and Gordon charged to the front where he would stay for the win. Gordon was a strong contender all race but was unable to slip and slide his way past this year’s winner Denny Hamlin.
Look for my opinion in an upcoming article I’ll be writing about the Martinsville drama that took place. Roush allegations on stolen parts, new drivers and more… Oh and check out the points standings on the right sidebar.. very interesting!

Who would have thought that Hamlin was going to win. He definately pulled it off and kept his cool. Especially with all the big dogs breathing down his neck. All the favorites had really strong finishes yesterday. Way to go Hendrick Motorsports. They may not have a win yet, but they still finish strong every week.

The words that stand out in my head when reading your comment Ryan are… “they may not have a win yet”.
They DON’T have a win, and I’m loving every minute of it!

Way to go, DENNY! You deserve this win!
While you were in Martinsville, I was racing in Bristol.
What an exciting time I had at Bristol! 38 Semi-Pro drivers entered this event from all over the Nation for 2008
Saturday I started the first heat race 4th, finished 4th. Started the second heat race 8th, finished 3rd. That put me in the field for the A Main. Out of the 38 drivers they started 24 in the A Main Feature. I started 16th and finished the 20 lap event in 11th.
We made a gear change for Sunday. Three rounds of practice and I was the 7th fastest car. We made another gear change and the stop watch had me in the top 3. I went out to qualify and the car would not turn. I qualified 20th. We knew something was wrong and after looking it over, found a broken steering bracket. We fixed the problem but I was way back in the field to start the event. The race was 40 laps or 20 minutes. I ended Sunday’s race in 10th place.
Brought home a top 10 from Bristol. The cars in one piece. It was a good weekend.
Thanks for your interest, Dale Dodge Jr

Actually, Ryan … I believe I called Hamlin to win it on Thursday (going by my Fantasy Preview) or over the weekend on this page.

Ill give it to you, Tim. You are the only one that I saw that gave Hamlin a shot at the win. The team deserved the win. That was a smart strategy they used. Although it was one that could have definately cost them the win, it sure worked.

I’m not really a Hamlin fan, but when I pick someone to win and they have a shot at winning … well, I want them to win. I swear I was cursing the tv when they came into pit right before the midway point. Really, I think it was an awful strategy, and the only thing that it really did was allow Hendrick to lead more laps. That pit strategy had little to do with the race outcome, because not only did it move Hamlin back in the field, but he wound up on the same pit schedule as the rest of the field anyway.
